Border Issues; BORSTAR unit rescues Illlegal Immigrants
Border Patrol BORSTAR acting supervisor Rob Kiernan talks with a rancher who spotted three illegal immigrants in Avra Valley, southwest of Tucson, Ariz., July 12, 2006. The Border Patrol Search, Trauma, Rescue unit provides first responder treatment to immigrants who are injured or become sick from their journey across the inhospitable Arizona desert. The second week of July has proven to be a slow time this year, and Kiernan has encountered few immigrants in the area 40 miles north of the Mexico border. He said the busiest time is in February when immigrants try to return north of the border after spending time with their families over the holidays.
